Jan-Feb 2025 Recap

Orchids: phalenopsis in bloom! Always so glad when they bloom—then I think they like me because I always feel I let them down as I am mostly guessing at their care! They have been enjoying the coolness of the days and nights with the added misty mist that rolls in often. I do need to help them get greener leaves...please send suggestions!

Oranges (Ka’u and Navel) & Meyer lemons, tangerines and limes Harvesting, juicing, preserving, sharing. Lots of that these months.

Bird’s nest & cherry blossoms: Watching the changing season of this sweet tree, from bud to bloom. No eggs in the nest so delicately built.

January and February always seem a bit like recovery months from all the preparation of the holidays, and I like to take a lot of time to be by myself. Walks, reading, old movies, writing, organizing, cleaning seem to be how most of my days are filled. Projects and travel are taking shape for the first half of the year—actually, through August, so it is nice to have a bit of a course plotted out for me to follow.

We have had a warm winter here with just a bit of snow on the beautiful Mauna. A few inches of rain were delivered with a good downpour or two to keep everything lush and green and cool. Lots of butterflies, dragonflies, pheasants, and pigs in the yard (who make a complete mess of it). The coquis and crickets are quieter when it is cooler, bringing many silent nights to our corner of the island.

A sign of the times...

Dear friend Laura, a service dog trainer, sent me a shot of one of her sweet service pups with a bag of our Hawaiian Vanilla Coffee (the best coffee, not biased at all :) You can find Laura and her puppies on instagram @goodasgoldens

Picture of me: Just me after church—had to get a picture of the lei & lei po’o —they took half a day to gather & make. Flower name: Huapala , Pyrostegia Venusta
