Our Stitchery
Emma here-- with a fabric haul from the LA fashion district and the latest projects from the stitchery! We had a wonderful morning in early March with the ladies of French General (check them out here)-- if you've never heard of them, you are in for a TREAT. We've had the privilege of attending many of their events and offerings over the years, and this time was super special because we got to bring Malia (my sister-in-law) with us! My baby Evy also came, heralding great reviews from all. At 6 months old, the child is already captivated by fine fabrics and notions.
Back at the French General store, we worked on a fabric tableaux. We're still working on ours, and will post they're finished :)
I'm already planning Evy's 1st birthday. While it's uncertain where it will be held (here in Hawai'i? Or in Alaska? It will be epic wherever it is held), I want it to be a hobbit summer/garden party. Think Bilbo's 111th. Inspired by being in the same house as my sewing machine for the first time in 2 years, I purchased fabric on the shopping trip as well as some designs for a vest and a dress from a cute shop on Etsy, despite Mom's numerous assurances that I can make patterns herself. In my own words, "The patterns were leveled at confident beginner, which couldn't describe my sewing aspirations more accurately."
Above are the fabrics I chose for what will eventually be the finished project^
Above here are my practice fabrics, originally purchased to make a cape for a child who has long outgrown the desire to wear a cape (fun fact, as an early teen I made capes for myself and all of my younger brothers; nothing fancy, just simple, flannel, square-hooded capes for questing, but they withheld against the elements for a good while. Alas, they did not survive the great purge when I moved out of my parents house.)
Nearly finished practice project! Now on to the real project. I'll keep you posted as it progresses!
